Never having built a house before, we have no idea what to expect as we go through the next several months. So many things are totally new to us, and we are depending so much on Daniel-the-Builder’s knowledge and experience.
We feel very good about our choice of D-t-B because of his committment to build green. He shares our vision and goals, and has really educated us in green building basics. He worked very closely with us and our architect, and we feel really good about the decisions we’ve made.
So we are on our way. Of course we want to drive out to the site every afternoon, but it just isn’t possible. We didn’t get to go today, and it’s making us crazy, because D-t-B told us we should have concrete basement walls by this afternoon! Concrete basement walls change everything! We no longer have a great big rectangular hole in the middle of our land, we have the beginnings of a real house. We won’t be saying ‘Let’s ride out the property’ anymore, we’ll be saying ‘Let’s ride out the the house’. It feels surreal.
It will be Saturday morning before we get to see our concrete basement walls. I’m thinking there will be a picnic inside the concrete basement walls. Our first meal in our new house.
