A Red Kind of Weekend

We have been anxiously waiting to top the hill to our new house and see this sight.  The big, red roof!

We absolutely love it.  We considered a green metal roof, and kind of changed our minds late in the game, and we’re really glad we did.

We have all of our steps finished now.  Boy, do we have steps!  The really funny thing about that is that we decided to build a one-story house so that we wouldn’t have to go up and down stairs all the time.  Oh well. :-).  Maybe we’ll stay in good physical shape running up and down all the time.

We had a lot of activity this week.  The electrical rough-in is all completed, and the security system is wired.  We should have framing/electrical/HVAC/plumbing inspections next week.  Once we’ve passed, the insulation will be blown in and the sheetrock put in.  Then our fun work begins.  We’ll do all the interior painting, installing all the hardwood flooring, painting cabinets and installing appliances.  During that time the electrical, plumbing and HVAC will all be ‘hooked up’, and we can get a certificate of occupancy.  We’ll likely go ahead and move in and then do all the finishing kind of things.  We’ll be so happy to get up there, the drive every day is getting old, and since the days are getting shorter it will become harder to get anything done except on the weekends until we get moved in.

We did get a little fun in this weekend (other than putting up stone on the house).  Daniel-the-Builder and his wife invited us to go with them to RedBASH, a charity event to raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Madison County, and Greengate School, a dyslexia resource in our community.  There were silent and live auctions, tons of great food and a lot of money was raised.  A good time was had by all.

Today was a really chilly day, which I happen to love.  We spent the day putting up stone, tomorrow will be more of the same.  It felt really good to come home at dark and have a big bowl of hot chili.

I love Fall!
